1967 Kennedy Half Dollar

The United States Mint issued the 1967 Kennedy Half Dollar (Buy on eBay) without the use of mint marks and once again the standard Proof Sets and Mint Sets were not produced. This was the third year these measures were taken to deal with a national coin shortage. The composition of the half dollar remained at 40% silver, the only circulating denomination with silver content.

The mintage for this issue was 295,046,978, a significant jump from the previous year and one of the highest figures for the series. As was the case for the prior three years, despite the high mintage, the major grading services PCGS and NGC have only certified an extremely small number of coins graded MS67. Any coins at this grade level command significant premiums from Registry Set collectors.

Kennedy Half Dollars were included in Special Mint Sets issued by the U.S. Mint. As with previous years, these Special Mint Set coins exhibiting cameo or deep cameo contrast are prized by collectors. The incidence of cameo contrast for this year is slightly higher, making the coins relatively more available.
