On May 15, 2023, the United States Mint began accepting orders for bags and rolls of circulating quality 2020 Kennedy Half Dollars (Buy on eBay) struck at the Philadelphia and Denver Mints. The product options included 200-coin bags from either mint facility priced at $147.50 or a two-roll set containing one roll from each mint priced at $34.50. The pricing has remained the same in recent years.
The Mint also released other numismatic products containing Kennedy Half Dollars. The 2023 Uncirculated Coin Set featured Uncirculated versions of the coins struck at the Philadelphia and Denver Mints. The 2023 Proof Set included the 2023-S Proof Kennedy Half Dollar struck at the San Francisco Mint in standard composition. The 2023 Silver Proof Set included a 99.9% silver version of the Kennedy Half Dollar struck at the San Francisco Mint. The coin will also be included in the 2023 Limited Edition Silver Proof Set in 99.9% silver.
Reporting from Coin World in 2022 and 2023 indicated that although circulation-quality half dollars have not been made for circulation since 2001, the Federal Reserve ordered these coins in both years. That was confirmed with reports from collectors about finding rolls of the coins at banks. The magazine also noted the discrepancy between announced sales and production levels for 2023, suggesting the Federal Reserve ordered the coins.
